Robotic Platform for Inspection of High-Voltage Power Lines

WCSAR, in collaboration with its international partner, is developing a state-of-the-art robot for the inspection of high-voltage (500-kV) power lines. The robot may be operated autonomously or by remote control. Features include the ability to surmount obstacles during inspection, measure power line sag and provide wireless telemetry. The robot carries an instrumentation payload consisting of a corona camera, a high resolution digital camera  (including video), UV sensors and GPS.
