ASC-GB Training
Astronaut Steve Lindsey was
trained by WCSAR staff to
use ASC-GB

The Astroculture Glove Box (ASC-GB) is a middeck locker insert payload for the conduction of manually operated experiments. During the STS-95 and STS-101 missions, ASC-GB was used to investigate the possible benefits of microgravity on plant cell transformation efficiency using Agrobacterium tumefaciens.

ASC-GB is made of clear polycarbonate material so that the crew is able to observe the entire process while performing the experiment. The glove box is mounted on a pair of precision linear slides to allow full extension and insertion from the aluminum insert. The experimental materials are confined inside the box. Manipulation of the experiment is achieved through the glove ports attached to each side.
