ADVASC is configured as two locker inserts. The top unit is the growth chamber, or ADVASC-GC. This is where the Arabidopsis plants are actually growing. The bottom unit is the support system, or ADVASC-SS. The ADVASC-SS contains the hardware needed to control the chamber environment.
After the Increment 2 mission, the ADVASC-SS unit was left onboard the International Space Station, and on flight UF-1, a new ADVASC-GC unit was sent up.
