WCSAR's commercial partner IFF grows prospective space plants under red and blue light emitting diodes (LEDs). Astroculture uses these LEDs to provide an energy-efficient light source for plants growing in space. It is important to be as energy-efficient as possible because electrical power is limited on the space shuttle.
