Mission

The mission of the Wisconsin Center for Space Automation and Robotics (WCSAR) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison is to develop and commercialize unique technologies, products, and processes to meet the needs of NASA for space-based research and the needs of industry for terrestrial-based applications, thereby contributing to an improved quality of life on Earth as well as supporting NASA’s goal of long-term human exploration of space. Our core competencies lie in robotics research, space flight hardware design/development, and plant biotech research. Since its establishment, WCSAR has actively engaged in robotics research in the fields of specialized manipulators and end-effector design, autonomous control, telerobotics, shared autonomous/teleoperated control, man-machine interface and interaction, and human factor and performance adaptation during teleoperation. WCSAR disseminates its experience and expertise for educational purposes, assisting in the development of educational products and providing educational opportunities for graduate and undergraduate students.
